Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (Portugal)
The initiator of the project, Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI), includes members from various nationalities based in the Algarve in Portugal. The Club supports many different projects; recent ones include funds for the purchase of firefighters equipment, polio eradication, items for an orphanage and help to victims of domestic violence. Like all Rotary Clubs, RCEPI is supported by Rotary International which coordinates global programs and initiatives. Its more than 46,000 Clubs work together to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, and protect the environment. Since the start of the war in Ukraine Rotary’s global network has sent millions of dollars’ worth of relief and medical supplies to help the people of Ukraine. Thanks to the generosity of donors around the world, Rotary’s Disaster Response Fund raised more than $15 million in contributions that are already helping provide people with essential items such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing. Its Ukraine project is coordinated by Rio Praaning Prawira Adiningrat (rdp@pa-international.org) and within Rotary International by Nicolas De Cannière (nicolas.dc@rotaryestoipalace.org).
De Leeuw Kyiv Foundation
The ‘De Leeuw Kyiv Foundation’ (‘The Lion Kyiv Foundation’) was founded by Emmeke Vierhout and Kees Huizinga and a group of other Dutch entrepreneurs who live and work in Ukraine. Most of them had to leave their business in Ukraine because of the war. To make use of their extensive network that goes deep into Ukraine they joined forces in the De Leeuw Kyiv Foundation and started to bring humanitarian goods to Ukraine. Every week, trucks leave The Netherlands with humanitarian goods to all corners of Ukraine. Twenty years of experience in Ukraine have created a large network with reliable contacts deep inside Ukraine. The Foundation is in control from collection to distribution: a lifeline that runs on experience and knowledge. The direct lines are also efficient and cost-effective, because they operate on an entirely voluntary basis. De Leeuw Kyiv works with other local organizations in Ukraine such as SaveUA, Charity Hearts, Dutch farmer in Ukraine, Healthcare4Ukraine and Ukrainian Agri Council. To date, De Leeuw Kyiv has distributed over three million euros worth in products to over 10 different regions in Ukraine. Most of them close to or at the front line in the east of Ukraine.
